Meet our Dietitian Monica Duffy, RD, LD

This weekend, we will be holding our third Walk With a Dietitian on the Fall Creek Greenway. This program is a partnership between the Indianapolis Greenways Partnership and the Marion County Department of Public Health and is intended to promote walking on Indy Greenways while providing users with useful information concerning nutrition and healthy eating. Overall, the program is intended to encourage walking and developing healthy walking and fitness routines.

In the previous two walks, we explored the topics of hydration/staying hydrated and food safety. On this upcoming third walk, our discussion will focus on hydrating fruits and vegetables.

Monica Duffy, RD, LD will be leading our June 17 walk. We caught up with Monica to talk a little about our upcoming program:

Tell us a little about yourself…

I’m originally from Illinois, I went to Purdue (Boiler Up), and I’ve lived in Indianapolis for almost 4 years. I started working for the Marion County Public Health Department this year and love it! I am a Produce Prescription Program Specialist, which means I work on programs that help make fruits and vegetables more accessible.

What should users expect if they participate in the program?

Good conversation, fresh air, and some new knowledge. The walks aren’t intended to be academic in nature, but we like to provide useful information that people can use in their everyday lives. Our hope is that it is a fun and informative walk.

Why are the greenways so important?

The greenways help people to get outside and enjoy our city. Going out for a walk counts as exercise! Of course, it’s good for our physical health, but also, it’s great for our mental health.
